Welcome to Dubai! The largest city in the United Arab Emirates is a the ultimate playground for thrill-seekers with its jaw-dropping attractions like the world’s tallest building, the Burj Khalifa. You’ll find all of my Dubai travel tips in the travel guide below!
What To Expect in Dubai
Climate: Dubai is a desert! Summers in Dubai are exceptionally hot—daytime temperatures can reach 106 degrees, while nighttime temperatures seldom fall below 88 degrees. Winters are significantly more agreeable, with temperatures ranging between sixty and seventy-five degrees.
Good to Know: The minimum drinking age is 21, and there are spots where photography is restricted, so keep an eye out for signs and be mindful of their rules and cultural traditions.
Credit Cards and Banks: Cash is still the king here. While most locations take credit cards, it is usually a good idea to have some modest cash on hand.
Language: While Arabic is the official language of the UAE, English is the business language spoken by practically everyone in Dubai.
Currency: The UAE’s currency is the dirham (Dhs).
Getting Around in Dubai
Public Transportation: Eating or drinking is not permitted in the metro. Cabins are reserved for specific groups, such as ladies only and gold class, therefore pay attention to the signage. Sleeping is not permitted in stations.
Taxis : To book a taxi, I’d recommend getting the Careem app and using it to book taxis anywhere in the country. You can pay by Apple Pay, cash or credit / debit card. Alternatively, if you’re staying at a hotel or hostel, you can ask the reception to call a taxi for you.
Bike: There are city routes all over the city that make it easy to bike! BYKY bikes can be rented at a sidewalk station and returned after you’re finished.
